Academic Visitors

Researchers and academics working in any area of geophysical fluid dynamics, physical oceanography, applied mathematics, nonlinear physics, and other areas relevant to the dynamics of rotating, stratified flows are welcome as visitors, particularly those who are new to the GFD Program or have expertise in the summer’s theme. We encourage potential visitors to attend the GFD reception at the APS DFD Meeting in November and get in touch with the Program Directors early in the year and before April (email addresses will be on the flyer advertising the summer program).

Funding is available to support visitors who stay for a minimum of a week, to be used towards accommodation and travel costs within the US. This funding is limited, therefore support will be confirmed by the Directors in April. If you require funding to attend, please contact the Directors before then. Priority for support will be given to academics who have not previously attended the program, those who have expertise in the theme, and those who are able to stay for the duration of the program (and therefore supervise a project).

The schedule for the daily seminars is also organized in advance of the summer program, although we do make an effort to fit in short term visitors when possible. Priority for seminars is given to those new to GFD and to long-term visitors (GFD staff). If you would like to give one of the daily seminars, make sure to contact the Directors well in advance and preferably before April.
